Wrong-Way Driver Involved in Fatal Crash on Highway 56 in San Diego

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (July 16, 2021) – Police confirmed that one person died in a wrong-way crash on eastbound Highway 56 on July 10.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened just east of Carmel Country Road around 1:44 AM.
 
Based on reports, a silver Honda Civic and a blue Mazda CX-5 collided in the lanes. Prior to that, one of the vehicles reportedly drove on the wrong way. Consequently, it collided head-on with the other car.
 
As a result, a passenger in the Honda died in the crash. Officials did not release the victim’s name pending kin notification. The Mazda driver received minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.
 
In the end, officers arrested the Honda driver, a 22-year-old man from San Marcos, on suspicion of DUI. At this point, this wrong-way crash on Highway 56 is still under investigation.
