Wrong-Way Driver Dies in Crash on Highway 101 in Redwood City
REDWOOD CITY, CA (February 11, 2021) – One person died in a wrong-way crash on northbound Highway 101 on February 8.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened just south of Broadway around 6:45 AM.
Based on a report, a grey Mazda MPV minivan travelled southbound in the northbound lanes on the highway. Subsequently, it collided head-on with a Kenworth dump truck. Consequently, the force of the collision disabled both vehicles.
As a result, the driver of the Mazda died at the scene. Officials did not yet release the victim’s name pending kin notification. The driver of the Kenworth was not hurt in the crash.
Crews closed the Nos. 3, 4, and 5 lanes to give way to a clearing operation. At this point, it is not yet known if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor. In addition, officers ask anyone with information about this wrong-way crash on Highway 101 to call Officer Wilkinson at (650) 369-6261.
