Suspected DUI Driver Dies in Crash on Highway 74 in Perris
PERRIS, CA (March 15, 2021) – Officials confirmed that one person died in a wrong-way crash on Highway 74 on March 13.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near Ellis Avenue at approximately 5:45 AM.
Based on a report, a Honda Accord drove eastbound in the westbound lane of the highway. Subsequently, it collided with a Nissan Pathfinder. Officers said the Nissan steered to the left to avoid the Honda. However, the Honda steered to the right, causing a collision.
As a result, the Honda driver died in the incident. Officials did not yet release the victim’s identity pending kin notification. In addition, two people in the Nissan were hurt. Crews transported them to Inland Valley Medical Center with major injuries.
After the crash, both vehicles blocked the westbound and eastbound number one lanes of the highway.
Officials said that impairment was a possible factor in the crash. However, they continue to investigate this wrong-way crash on Highway 74.
