Fatal Rollover Accident on 5 Freeway in Buttonwillow Involves Carjacking

 
BUTTONWILLOW, CA (December 13, 2021) – One person died in a rollover accident on 5 Freeway in Buttonwillow on Thursday.
 
The accident happened on December 9 just north of Herring Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash involved a sedan. It overturned on its roof in an orchard for unknown reason.
 
The driver of the sedan then carjacked a good Samaritan who pulled over and tried to assist them in the crash, taking the Samaritan’s silver BMW at gunpoint, according to the CHP.
 
First responders attended to a passenger who was pinned inside the overturned sedan. Despite life-saving efforts, the passenger died at the scene.
 
The identity of the victim was not immediately available.
 
At this time, officers are still on the lookout for the suspect, who was armed with a gun.
 
Further investigation is underway.
