Pickup Truck Crashes into Tractor-Trailer in Fatal Accident on 40 Freeway in Barstow
LUDLOW, CA (February 3, 2021) – One person died following a pickup truck accident on 40 Freeway in the afternoon of January 22.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision happened just east of Crucero Road at approximately 1:00 PM.
Based on a report, the man was driving a 2005 Chevrolet pick-up truck at a high rate of speed prior to the crash. Officials said he did not see a 2019 Kenworth tractor-trailer towing a tanker trailer and traveling at nearly 55 mph. Subsequently, he crashed his truck into its rear. After impact, his Chevy veered to the right and entered the right dirt shoulder before it overturned.
Officials said the crash ejected the man from his vehicle. As a result, he died after sustaining fatal injuries. Officials only identified him as a 69-year-old Riverside resident. The driver of the Kenworth, a 44-year-old man from Simi Valley, was not hurt. He stopped along the right-hand shoulder after the crash.
Officers did not suspect alcohol and/or drugs as contributing factors. At this time, this fatal pickup truck accident is still under investigation by the CHP Barstow Office.
