Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Jeep on Berendo Avenue in South LA

 
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (February 14, 2022) – One person was killed in a pedestrian accident at Berendo Avenue and West Carson Street in South Los Angeles on Wednesday morning.
 
The accident happened around 9:58 a.m. on February 9, in front of Harbor UCLA Medical Center. According to the California Highway Patrol, the pedestrian was crossing the roadway when a white Jeep struck them. A gray vehicle also possibly hit the victim while lying in the roadway.
 
The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The Los Angeles County Sheriff Coroner withheld the victim’s identity pending family notification.
 
There is a marked crosswalk controlled by traffic lights at the location, but it is unknown if the pedestrian was using it or if the motorists obeyed traffic signals.
 
At this time, investigators are reviewing the evidence and piecing together any witness statements to determine the circumstances surrounding this fatal accident.
