Fatal Multi-Vehicle Accident on 5 Freeway in Carlsbad

 
CARLSBAD, CA (April 6, 2021) – One person died Sunday morning after a multi-vehicle accident on 5 Freeway in Carlsbad.
 
The fatal accident happened around 4:45 a.m. on April 4 along the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway just south of Tamarack Avenue. Details of how the crash occurred were not immediately available, but officers said one vehicle flipped over and crashed into the center divider.
 
After the initial crash, two other vehicles overturned ejecting one occupant. That person died at the scene.
 
At this time, it is unknown if speed or intoxication was a factor. The California Highway Patrol is trying to determine the exact cause of the crash.
