Motorcyclist Dies after Hit by Pickup Truck and SUV on 580 Freeway in Oakland

 
OAKLAND, CA (July 5, 2022) – One person was killed in a motorcycle accident on 580 Freeway in Oakland early Monday morning on July 4.
 
The accident happened a little after 1:00 a.m. just west of the Lake Park Avenue overcrossing. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Dodge pickup truck heading east on the freeway approached the motorcycle that had stopped in the second lane from the left without its lights on.
 
The driver of the Dodge was traveling at freeway speeds and could not avoid hitting the motorcycle.
 
After the crash, the motorcyclist was ejected into lanes of traffic and was hit by an SUV. They suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
The drivers of the Dodge and the SUV cooperated with officers. They were determined to be unimpaired by drugs or alcohol.
 
Further investigation is underway.
