Fatal Motorcycle Accident on 5 Freeway south of Balboa Avenue

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 21, 2021) – One person was killed in a motorcycle accident on 5 Freeway near Mission Bay Golf Course.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 5:43 p.m. Saturday, March 20, just south of Balboa Avenue.
 
The motorcyclist landed on the right-hand shoulder and the motorcycle went down in the far right lane, the CHP said. The victim suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
Authorities will release the victim’s identity once family members are properly notified.
 
Patrolmen temporarily shut down two freeway lanes until around 6:30 p.m. while they investigated the crash scene.
 
It is unknown at this time if speed, drugs or alcohol played a factor in the accident.
