One Killed in Head-On Accident on Highway 70 near Yankee Hill [Butte County, CA]

Head-On Accident on Highway 70 in Butte County Kills 1 Driver and Seriously Injures Another

 
BUTTE COUNTY, CA (July 6, 2021) – One person was killed in a head-on accident on Highway 70 near Yankee Hill early Monday morning.
 
The accident happened just after 3:00 a.m. on July 5, between Rich Gulch Road and the bridge. According to the California Highway Patrol, a red Mazda and a Ford Focus heading in different directions collided head-on for unknown reasons.
 
As a result, one of the drivers suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The other driver had serious injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital.
 
Both drivers are sole occupants of their cars. Their identities were not immediately available.
 
CHP officials shut down a stretch of Highway 70 while they documented the crash site. They reopened the highway roughly around 6:00 a.m.
 
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
