Four-Car Pileup on 580 Freeway in Livermore Kills 1 Driver and Injures Another
LIVERMORE, CA (May 27, 2023) – One person was killed in a four-car accident on 580 Freeway in Livermore early Thursday morning on May 25.
The fatal accident happened around 3:31 a.m. just west of First Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, a speeding Ford Mustang rear-ended a Ford F-350 pickup truck along the southbound freeway. The impact of the initial crash left the Mustang stopped crosswise in the second lane from the left.
A 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck was approaching the disabled vehicle at more than 75 mph. The driver looked over a shoulder to make a lane change and then looked back at the roadway only to see the Mustang directly in his truck’s path.
The Chevrolet slammed into the Mustang’s front passenger door without braking, then collided with a Ford Expedition.
As a result of this pileup crash, the driver of the Mustang suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
The driver of the Chevrolet was hospitalized with broken bones in both legs.
Meanwhile, the drivers of the Expedition and the Ford pickup were unharmed.
An investigation into this crash is ongoing.
