Police Arrest Driver for DUI Hit-and-Run Charges after Fatal Madera Crash

 
MADERA, CA (May 16, 2022) – At least one person died in a DUI hit-and-run crash on Avenue 17 in Madera on Saturday evening, May 14.
 
The accident happened around 10:00 p.m. at Melba Drive. According to the California Highway Patrol, a GMC pickup truck was making a right turn onto Avenue 17 when it collided with a Hyundai.
 
As a result, the passenger in the Hyundai died at the scene. The victim was not wearing a seatbelt.
 
The driver of the Hyundai ran off but was later found hiding in a vacant lot and arrested on suspicion of DUI and felony hit-and-run.
 
Meanwhile, the utility truck driver was treated for minor injuries.
 
The California Highway Patrol is still investigating this fatal crash.
