Passenger Dies after DUI Accident on Highway 99 in Galt, Driver Arrested

 
GALT, CA (May 4, 2021) – A passenger was killed in a DUI accident on Highway 99 in Galt early Sunday morning, May 1.
 
The accident happened around 3:45 a.m. along the southbound lanes of the highway, just north of Twin Cities Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 37-year-old Stockton man was driving a vehicle when he made a turning movement toward the left. He then struck a wood post metal guardrail in the center median.
 
The car then overturned on the dirt shoulder, ejecting the passenger.
 
First responders provided aid, but the passenger died at the scene. Authorities only described her as a 29-year-old Stockton woman.
 
Meanwhile, paramedics took the driver to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
 
After conducting a DUI check, officers placed the driver under arrest while he was still in the hospital. After his release, police took him to the Sacramento County Main Jail.
 
The driver is facing charges of DUI manslaughter.
 
Neither of the two was wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Further investigation is underway.
