Police Arrest Alberto Lopez for Murder and DUI Charges after Fatal Palm Desert Crash

 
PALM DESERT, CA (January 14, 2023) – One person died and police arrested Albert Lopez after a DUI crash in Palm Desert early Friday morning.
 
The fatal crash happened around 2:30 a.m. on January 13, at Country Club Drive and Cook Street. According to the Riverside County Fire Authority, the 26-year-old suspect from Coachella was driving a burgundy Dodge Durango eastbound on Country Club Drive at a high rate of speed. He then collided into the rear of a stopped red Hyundai Elantra.
 
When deputies arrived, they found the driver and the sole occupant of the Hyundai dead in the car.
 
Lopez allegedly showed signs of impairment and was arrested. A record check also indicated that he had prior convictions for driving under the influence.

Police booked him on suspicion of murder into the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio, where he remains held on $1 million bail, according to inmate records.
