One Person Killed, Six Injured in Multi-Vehicle Accident on 215 Freeway near 60 Freeway
RIVERSIDE, CA (November 16, 2021) — At least one person died and six others suffered injuries in a multi-vehicle accident on 215 Freeway.
The crash took place on the southbound 215 Freeway to the 215 southbound transition road at the Moreno Valley interchange. It occurred at about 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 11.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Toyota Sienna with seven occupants went into the left lane, into the path of a box truck.
The truck hit the left rear of the van causing it to spin out of control. CHP said the van went into a gore point between the transition road and the eastbound 60 Freeway. After that, it struck a collapsible guardrail.
Medics pronounced one passenger in the van dead at the scene. That person’s gender or age has was not yet available.
Medics rushed six others to hospitals in critical condition. Several of those were children who sustained traumatic injuries, said Riverside Fire Battalion Chief Bruce Vanderhorst. At least one child had a head injury, CHP stated.
The driver of the box truck cooperated with the investigation. Officials do not suspect alcohol played a role in the crash.
