Omari Chenualt Arrested in DUI Accident on Tuolumne Road [Sonora, CA]

DUI Accident on Tuolumne Road in Sonora Injures Three

 
SONORA, CA (April 5, 2021) – Police arrested Omari Chenualt after a DUI accident on Tuolumne Road in Sonora Monday afternoon last week.
 
The accident happened on March 29, just west of Soulsbyville Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 24-year-old Long Barn resident was driving his 1990 Toyota pickup truck eastbound on Tuolumne Road at a high rate of speed. Ahead of him was 54-year-old Derek Ellis of Sonora in his 2009 Dodge SUV.
 
The Dodge stopped and attempted to make a left turn into a private driveway. Chenualt was unable to stop his vehicle and plowed into the rear end of the SUV, CHP officials said.
 
Ellis and Chenualt’s sustained minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital.
 
Meanwhile, 23-year-old Victor Bassett of Twain Harte, a passenger in the pickup, also sustained minor injuries but was treated at the scene.
 
During the investigation, CHP officers determined Chenualt was driving under the influence of alcoholic and taken into custody for felony DUI. His bail was set at $35,000.
