2 Men Die after Crash between Amtrak Train and Car in Southwest Fresno

 
FRESNO, CA (March 18, 2021)Noe Maravilla and Juan Ramirez died in a train accident Monday evening in southwest Fresno.
 
The accident happened just after 10:30 p.m., March 15 near the intersection of South Maple Avenue and East Central Avenue. Officers said Maravilla and Ramirez were in a car that swerved through down crossing arms when an Amtrak train struck them. The car was dragged several hundred yards.
 
27-year-old Maravilla and 21-year-old Ramirez both died at the scene, according to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office. Both were Fresno residents.
 
According to police, Maravilla was the one driving the car.
 
About 26 people were on board the Amtrak train heading from Oakland to Bakersfield. None of them was hurt.
 
Police are still looking into whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
