FRESNO, CA (January 13, 2022) — Fortunately, everyone involved escaped harm after a train hit a big rig near Maple Avenue and Jensen Avenue Wednesday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. during heavy foggy conditions. Since the railroad tracks had no guarded rail crossing at the time, crews set up flares to warn drivers of the oncoming train. However, a semi-truck, reportedly traveling too fast for foggy conditions, crossed over the railroad tracks. As a result, the slow-moving BNSF freight train slammed into it.
 
At this time, CHP officers believe speeding and severe weather may have factored into the accident. However, an ongoing investigation should confirm the details.
