18-Year-Old Nelson Rocha-Ayala Killed in Blythe Pedestrian Accident
BLYTHE, CA (May 13, 2022) — Officials identified 18-year-old Nelson Rocha-Ayala of Blythe as the pedestrian struck in a crash last month on April 6.
According to Blythe station California Highway Patrol, the accident took place on 10th Avenue at about 1:43 a.m.
According to reports, Rocha-Ayala walked westbound on 10th Avenue, within the lanes, east of North Broadway. Meanwhile, a 2016 Cadillac moved westbound on 10th Avenue, east of North Broadway, at around 55 miles per hour.
As the Cadillac continued westbound on 10th Avenue, the driver noticed a dark object within the roadway. The driver then stepped on the brake to prevent striking the object. However, the left front of the vehicle still hit Rocha-Ayala.
After the impact, the involved driver stopped at the scene and called 911.
Rocha-Ayala suffered fatal injuries. The Coroner’s Bureau said he died a month after the crash and they listed his time of death as 2:09 a.m. on May 6. His mother created a GoFundMe page for the funeral expenses.
CHP Officer J. Castro evaluated the driver and determined that they were not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The cause of the crash is still under further investigation.
