Authorities Identify Big Rig Driver Killed in Highway 99 Crash in Keyes

 
KEYES, CA (August 15, 2021) – Muni Kumar was killed in a big rig accident early Friday morning on Highway 99 in Keyes.
 
The fatal accident happened around 3:15 a.m. on August 13, along the northbound lanes of the highway, just north of Faith Home Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 54-year-old man was driving north of Faith Home Road when he allowed his tractor-trailer rig to drift to the right and leave the east side of the road.
 
Kumar’s truck then sideswiped another big rig and a Toyota Camry, that were both parked on the shoulder. It then continued in a northeasterly direction and hit a dirt embankment, where it overturned and landed on its side.
 
As a result, Kumar died at the scene. He was a Fiji immigrant who was living in Sacramento.
 
No other injuries were reported.
 
The CHP reported that a highly corrosive fluid was leaking from the trailer and fuel spilled from the tractor.
 
An investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing.
