Motorcyclist Dead in Traffic Crash on 91 Freeway near Van Buren Boulevard

RIVERSIDE, CA (June 22, 2022) — A motorcyclist died in a traffic accident on the 91 Freeway on Tuesday, June 21.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatality happened at about 7:40 a.m. on the westbound 91, just east of Van Buren Boulevard.

Sgt. Steven Rusk said the rider traveled about 65 mph “splitting traffic” on the white lines between the HOV and No. 1 lanes.

According to Rusk, his handlebar might have clipped the back of a Jeep Latitude. Then he lost control and went down in the HOV lane. After that, the sergeant said an RTA commuter bus driver was unable to stop in time, hitting him.

Riverside Fire Department paramedics arrived and pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene. His identity was not immediately available.

The bus driver was the only occupant of the bus. He wasn’t injured, nor were the occupants of the Jeep, Rusk said.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a contributing factor in the incident.

Anyone with information about the crash can contact the CHP Riverside office at 951-637-8000.
