Police Arrest Raul Gonzalez for Santa Barbara DUI Crash, Killing Motorcyclist

 
SANTA BARBARA, CA (November 29, 2021) – A motorcyclist died and police arrested Raul Gonzalez after a DUI crash near Ortega Park in Santa Barbara on Saturday afternoon.
 
The fatal crash happened around 1:55 p.m. on November 27 at East Cota Street and Salsipuedes Street. According to the Santa Barbara Police Department, the 48-year-old suspect from Santa Barbara was driving a Jeep SUV when he slammed into the back of a motorcycle. The Jeep then crashed into parked Dodge Ram pickup truck, while the motorcycle hit a parked Toyota sedan.
 
The motorcyclist was then thrown about 85 feet before he landed in the roadway.
 
First responders tried saving the motorcyclist, but the unidentified victim died at the scene.
 
Police determined that Gonzalez was driving under the influence. They arrested him for felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and felony DUI causing injury or death. They booked him at the Santa Barbara County Jail at $1,000,000 bail.
 
The case remained under investigation.
