MARYSVILLE, CA (May 23, 2022) – A motorcyclist died in a head-on accident on Mathews Lane in Marysville on Friday morning, May 20.
The accident happened around 10:00 a.m. just north of Woodruff Lane. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 41-year-old man driving a 2012 Honda motorcycle was traveling southbound on Mathews Lane, approaching Woodruff Lane.
At the same time, 50-year-old Garitt Cox of Grass Valley was driving his 2004 Dodge pickup truck northbound on Mathews Lane from Woodruff Lane.
As both drivers approached each other, the motorcyclist went into the northbound lane and collided head-on with the left front corner of Cox’s pickup. The impact ejected him from his bike and he landed in the northbound lane. The motorcycle eventually fell on its side and came to a rest in the northbound lane.
Cox was able to maintain control of his vehicle and stopped in the northbound lane. He was not injured.
First responders attempted life-saving measures on the motorcyclist, but the victim died at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation, but authorities said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
