TEMECULA, CA (January 12, 2025) – A motorcyclist was killed in a DUI crash on Highway 79 in Temecula Thursday night on January 9.

The fatal crash happened just after 6:00 p.m. near Highway 371. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 74-year-old Aguanga man was driving a 2013 Hyundai Accent southbound on Highway 79, approaching a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

For unknown reasons, the senior allowed the front of his Hyundai to collide into the rear of the motorcycle.

The impact ejected the motorcycle rider off the bike. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the motorcycle rolled into a Toyota Highlander, driven by a 51-year-old La Quinta woman, waiting at a stop sign to turn at the intersection. The motorcycle then rear-ended the SUV, causing unspecified damage.

The driver of the Hyundai was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI resulting in great bodily injury. He is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail at the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta.

An investigation into this crash is ongoing.
