1 Dead after Solo Motorcycle Accident on Highway 85 near Highway 101

SANTA CLARA, CA (September 27, 2021) – A motorcyclist was killed in a solo accident on Highway 85, early Saturday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on September 4, shortly after 2:00 a.m. Dispatchers received reports of a pedestrian in the roadway of southbound Highway 101.

Officers arrived and found the unconscious pedestrian wearing a helmet. However, CHP did not find motorcycles near the area. A short time later, responders found a red Kawasaki motorcycle below the overpass.

A preliminary investigation later determined that the motorcycle was northbound on Highway 85 flyover when the rider lost control. Then, the motorcycle hit a concrete barrier. The impact of the crash ejected the rider, who landed in the No. 1 lane of Highway 101.

Emergency crews pronounced the rider dead at the scene. Authorities did not release the name of the victim. Responders described the victim as a San Jose man between the ages of 30 to 40.

Officers ask witnesses to call CHP’s Redwood City area office at (650) 369-6261.
