Francisco Cruz Dies in Bakersfield Motorcycle Accident on Highway 99
BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 29, 2021) – A motorcyclist was killed in a three-vehicle accident on Highway 99 in Bakersfield Tuesday night, April 27.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man killed in the crash as 33-year-old Francisco Javier Hernandez Cruz.
The accident happened around 6:29 p.m. on Highway 99 near Rosedale Highway, also known as Highway 58. According to the California Highway Patrol, Cruz was splitting lanes when the motorcycle lost control.
Officers said the motorcyclist – Cruz – made an unsafe turn and hit the right rear of the big rig’s trailer. The impact threw him from the motorcycle and onto the roadway.
Cruz suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Caltrans closed the second and third lanes of southbound Highway 99 near Airport Drive while they cleared the wreckage.
Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
