Police Arrest Francisco Jauregui for DUI after Crash on Highway 20 in Sutter Killing Mother and 16-Month-Old Son

 
SUTTER, CA (February 23, 2023) – A mother and a child were killed in a DUI crash on Highway 20 in Sutter late Monday evening.
 
The fatal crash happened around 11:10 p.m. on February 20, along Highway 20 near Acacia Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, 43-year-old Francisco Jauregui from Yuba City was driving a 2021 Chevrolet 3500 eastbound while two-and-a-half times over the legal blood alcohol limit. He crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV.
 
The driver of the SUV, a 25-year-old Colusa woman, died in the crash along with her 16-month-old son. Another passenger in the SUV, a 15-year-old boy, was taken to a hospital with major injuries.
 
Jauregui attempted to flee the scene on foot before being detained by CHP officers. He faces charges including DUI causing serious injury or death, two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter, two counts of child endangerment and charges related to evading officers. He will be booked into jail following release from the hospital.

An investigation is ongoing.
