Morgan Sykes Dead after Rollover Crash on Calistoga Road near Bodmer Lane

SANTA ROSA, CA (August 31, 2021) — Officers identified 27-year-old Morgan Sykes, of Florida, as the man who died in a crash on Thursday.

The fatal incident occurred just before 5:00 p.m. on Calistoga Road near Bodmer Lane. CHP Officer David deRutte said the driver drifted to the right and struck an embankment.

According to deRutte, the Volkswagen rolled over and went to the left off the east roadway edge. The Volkswagen then crashed into a tree. After that, it rolled over down an embankment where it ejected the driver.

Emergency personnel discovered Sykes outside the car. He suffered fatal injuries. The Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigators did not immediately know why Sykes drifted from the roadway. However, it appeared he did not wear his seatbelt, and he traveled at an unsafe speed.

The CHP urges anyone with information about the incident to call the Santa Rosa CHP Office at 707-588-1400.
