FRESNO, CA (May 16, 2022) — Monique Contreraz died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident near Golden State Boulevard and Cornelia Avenue on Friday.
 
According to Fresno Police, Shawn Ginter struck 29-year-old Contreraz as she was pushing a shopping cart and walking her dog.
 
Subsequently, Ginter drove away, dragging the homeless woman about eight miles to La Quinta Inn and Suites by Wyndham on Cornelia Avenue. Per reports, Ginder tried to get a room but hotel staff reported no availability.
 
Soon after, witnesses saw a pickup with damage reversing out of a stall at the hotel and an object dislodging from underneath it. Upon seeing the woman’s body, witnesses called 911 as the truck drove off.
 
Hours after, Ginder reportedly barricaded himself in a family member’s cabin in Bass Lake. Subsequently, the 38-year-old jumped out of a window and suffered critical injuries. Soon after, paramedics took him to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
