Midori Montalvo Dies, 4-Year-Old Hospitalized in Pedestrian Crash on Highway 1 at River Street

 
SANTA CRUZ, CA (August 5, 2022) — Midori Montalvo died while her 4-year-old suffered an injury in a pedestrian accident on Highway 1 at River Street.
 
According to the Santa Cruz Police Department, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred around 12:45 a.m. on Thursday. Under unclear circumstances, an oncoming driver with a green traffic light struck 24-year-old Montalvo and her 4-year-old daughter.
 
Soon after, paramedics reached the scene and performed CPR on Montalvo before rushing her to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Her unidentified daughter suffered an injury, as well, and is expected to survive.
 
Back at the scene, the driver stayed and cooperated with police investigators. Officers do not suspect impairment to have played a role in the accident but do believe the pedestrians were hit outside of a marked crosswalk.
