Motorcyclist Michael Pennington Dies after Crash with Farm Equipment in Susanville

 
SUSANVILLE, CA (July 15, 2021) – Michael Pennington was killed in a motorcycle accident on Highway 139 in Susanville Tuesday morning.
 
The accident happened around 10:45 a.m. on July 6. According to the California Highway Patrol, Pennington was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on Highway 139 at a high rate of speed. Due to his unsafe speed, he lost control of the motorcycle as he attempted to negotiate a left curve in the roadway.
 
The motorcycle then overturned, ejecting Pennington into the roadway. The motorcycle crossed the solid double yellow line directly into the path of a New Holland, driven by 49-year-old John Fitzgerald of Susanville. Fitzgerald was traveling northbound at about 35 miles per hour.
 
Fitzgerald applied his brake in an attempt to avoid a crash, but he was unable to avoid Pennington.
 
As a result of the crash, Pennington suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 51-year-old Bellflower resident.
 
At this time, this fatal crash remains under investigation.
