Fatal Semi Truck Accident on Highway 33 in Kern County

 
KERN COUNTY, CA (July 8, 2021) – One person died in a semi truck accident on Highway 33 in western Kern County early Sunday morning, June 27.
 
Police identified the victim as 22-year-old Michael Thomas Mayfield of Taft.
 
The accident happened around 12:30 a.m. on Highway 33 at Lokern Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, Mayfield stopped at a stop sign on Lokern Road. After that, he made an unsafe turn into the direct path of a semi-truck driving northbound on Highway 33, according to CHP.
 
Mayfield died at the scene. The other driver was not hurt.
 
The crash is being investigated by the Buttonwillow Area CHP office.
