BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 3, 2021) – Authorities identified 40-year-old Micah Jason Howard of Bakersfield as the pedestrian killed in an accident on Highway 99, late Monday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 11:10 p.m. For reasons still under investigation, Howard ran across traffic lanes. After that, a Jeep Grand Cherokee and multiple other vehicles hit him near California Avenue.
 
Emergency crews pronounced Howard dead at the scene.
 
Responders temporarily closed the No. 2 through No. 4 lanes for more than two hours to make way for an investigation.
 
CHP ruled out DUI and distracted driving as factors in the fatal accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
