According to the California Highway Patrol, the single-car crash happened around 9:50 p.m. For DUI-related reasons, 20-year-old Santiago ran a stop sign at Eastside Road while heading north on Old Redwood Highway. As a result, his Dodge Dart struck a concrete wall and rolled onto its side.
Subsequently, firefighter-paramedics responded and put out the imminent fire and treated two unresponsive passengers for their major injuries and two others with moderate injuries.
Prior to police arrival, Santiago crawled out of the broken windshield and left the scene. However, deputies booked him into the Sonoma County Jail on charges of felony DUI and felony hit-and-run after capturing him.
