Motorcyclist Melo Toste Correia Suffers Major Injuries after Colliding with Car in Merced County

 
MERCED COUNTY, CA (January 17, 2022) – Melo Toste Correia was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on Highway 165 in Merced County on Saturday afternoon.
 
The accident happened around 2:37 p.m. on January 15, just south of Fowler Road near Hilmar. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 30-year-old victim from Hilmar was riding a 2002 Kawasaki ZX600 at approximately 60 mph and was passing vehicles.
 
At the same time, a 76-year old Hilmar woman was driving a 1999 Honda Accord north on Highway 165. She was slowing to make a left turn when she collided with the Kawasaki.
 
Toste Correia continued another 80 feet on the motorcycle after the crash until the bike hit a cable box. He was ejected from the motorcycle and tumbled another 200 feet.
 
As a result, Toste Correia suffered lacerations to his head and possible internal bleeding. Arriving paramedics rushed him to a Modesto-area hospital in an unknown condition.
 
Neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
