Homeless Woman Dies after Struck by Vehicle on West First Street near Fairview Street

 
SANTA ANA, CA (January 25, 2023) – Melina Sierra Martinez was killed in a pedestrian accident in Santa Ana Tuesday morning on January 24.
 
The fatal accident happened around 5:55 a.m. along West First Street, just west of Fairview Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, Martinez was walking in the area when a vehicle struck her.
 
First responders found Martinez lying in the roadway with significant injuries. They attempted saving her, but she she died at the scene.
 
Authorities said Martinez was 30 years old and homeless.
 
The involved driver stayed on scene and cooperated with investigators.
 
Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in that crash. Further investigation is underway.
