Matthew Galea Arrested, 16-Year-Old Killed in Hit-And-Run Crash on Highway 49 and Valley View Way

 
SUTTER CREEK, CA (May 20, 2022) — Officials arrested 40-year-old Matthew Galea of Shingle Springs after a fatal hit-and-run crash.
 
According to the Sutter Creek Police Department, a little after 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, officers received reports of a vehicle and pedestrian crash. They then responded to the crash site at Highway 49 and Valley View Way.
 
Officers said a 16-year-old teen tried to cross the road with another person when a vehicle hit the teen and fled the scene.
 
Police said medics rushed the teen to a hospital in Sacramento in grave condition. Police announced on Wednesday that he had died from his injuries.
 
The identity of the teen was not immediately available. However, police said he was a student at Amador High School.
 
Officials identified Galea as the alleged driver in the incident. They arrested him in El Dorado County. After that, they booked him into Amador County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run resulting in death or injury.
 
Officials continue to investigate the incident.
