Authorities Identity Mary Eskman Killed in Suspected DUI Accident
ELK GROVE, CA (February 2, 2021) – Authorities has identified the woman who died in a suspected DUI accident two weeks ago in Elk Grove.
The accident happened on January 8 on the northbound side of Highway 99 near Dillard Road.
CHP officials said 26-year-old Mary Eskman of Roseville was first involved in a non-injury crash with another driver.
Both drivers in that crash got out of their cars to exchange information. While they were standing on the roadway, an oncoming 1996 Volkswagen Jetta struck Eskman and one of the stopped vehicles.
Eskman suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Police arrested the driver of the Jetta on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. They identified him as 23-year-old Jesus S. Hernandez of Bridgeport, Washington.
On Friday, Hernandez remained in custody at the Sacramento County Jail. Prosecutors have since charged Hernandez with vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence, according to jail records. His bail amount has been set at $250,000.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mary Eskman.
