Police Arrest Mario Lopez for Hit-and-Run after Fatally Striking 62-Year-Old Man in Woodland
WOODLAND, CA (July 20, 2021) – Police arrested Mario Lopez after a fatal hit-and-run crash in east Woodland Friday morning.
The fatal crash happened around 8:50 a.m. on July 16, in the area of Tide Court and Pioneer Avenue. According to the Woodland Police Department, they received reports of a man being shoved out of a vehicle and suffering from gunshot wounds.
At the scene, officers determined the 62-year-old man was not thrown from the car or shot, but killed in a hit-and-run.
A resident told officers about a suspicious vehicle on the 1600 block of Gillette Drive, near East Gum Avenue.
Officers later contacted the driver – 19-year-old Lopez – and the passenger. They arrested Lopez and booked him into the Yolo County Jail for murder, hit-and-run resulting in death, DUI and driving on a suspended license.
At this time, an investigation is ongoing.
