FRESNO COUNTY, CA (November 14, 2021)Maria Ortiz was hit and killed on Friant Road in Fresno County late Friday night as her mother fought with her partner in their car.
The accident happened just before 10:00 p.m. on November 12, near Willow Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 8-year-old victim was traveling in a vehicle with her 22-year-old mother, her 2-year-old sister and 51-year-old Juan Jose DelTorro Ramirez.

That was when Ortiz jumped out of the car, walked out onto Friant Road, and was hit by another car traveling on the roadway.
The driver of the second car did not see her in time because of the thick fog. They stayed on scene and cooperated with authorities.
