DUI Crash on Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo County Kills 2, Critically Injures 3 Others

 
SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, CA (April 19, 2022)Maria R. Hernandez and Celene N. Reducindo died in a DUI crash on Highway 101 on Saturday evening.
 
The crash happened shortly before 8:00 p.m. on April 16 just south of Santa Barbara Road. CHP officials said 47-year-old Berenice Cortez Pineda of Santa Maria was driving a Chevrolet Cruze northbound. For unknown reasons, she pulled over and stopped on the asphalt shoulder.
 
After that, 21-year-old Felipe Antonio Gonzalez of Santa Maria was driving a Chevrolet Suburban northbound in the left-hand lane in excess of 65 mph when he lost control of the vehicle. He attempted to regain control of the Suburban, but unsuccessful.
 
The Suburban then drifted across the right lane and onto the shoulder, where it slammed into the back of the parked Cruze.
 
Hernandez, 54, and Reducindo, 47, were seated in the rear seats of the Cruze. Both suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Both were Santa Maria residents.
 
A third back-seat passenger, 3-year-old Mia Peralta of Santa Maria, suffered major injuries. Paramedics rushed her to Valley Children’s Healthcare in Madera for treatment.
 
Pineda and a front-seat passenger, 48-year-old Ricardo P. Gonzalez, suffered critical injuries.
 
Meanwhile, Gonzalez sustained minor injuries. Police arrested and booked him into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony DUI causing bodily injury, and driving with a blood-alcohol content of 0.10% causing bodily injury.
