Man in Wheelchair Dies in Bakersfield Pedestrian Crash on Lotus Lane

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (January 18, 2022) — A man in a wheelchair died in a pedestrian accident on Lotus Lane near Melwood Street on Sunday night.
 
According to the Bakersfield Police, the fatal pedestrian crash happened at approximately 9:00 p.m. For unknown reasons, a driver struck a man in a wheelchair who was purportedly crossing outside of a marked crosswalk.
 
Soon after, paramedics responded and brought the victim to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. Meanwhile, police interviewed the driver, who showed no signs of impairment or evidence of speeding prior to the crash.
