Scooter Rider Suffers Serious Injuries after Colliding with Car on Nobel Drive in University City

 
UNIVERSITY CITY, CA (August 3, 2022) – A 47-year-old man was seriously injured in a scooter accident on Nobel Drive in University City area Monday afternoon on August 1.
 
The accident happened around 2:19 p.m. in the 4100 block of Nobel Drive. According to the San Diego Police Department, the man was riding a Bird scooter on the eastbound side of the road when he made a left northbound turn against a red arrow. He then struck the front of a Hyundai Elantra traveling westbound.
 
As a result, the scooter rider suffered life-threatening injuries, including significant soft tissue damage to the head and face, cervical fractures and a fractured right femur.
 
The driver of the Hyundai, a 58-year-old woman, was unharmed.
 
The crash is under investigation. The SDPD traffic officers asked anyone with further information to call them at 888-580-8477.
 
When riding a scooter, always wear a helmet. Avoid riding scooters on rough terrain or uneven surfaces. Also, avoid riding at night or when it is harder for motorists to see you. Lastly, Do not drive at excessive speeds, and do not dart between lanes in traffic.
