Pedestrian Loses Legs in Chula Vista Car Accident on C Street
CHULA VISTA, CA (November 4, 2021) – A man suffered life-threatening injuries in a pedestrian accident on C Street near 5th Avenue in Chula Vista on Wednesday morning.
The accident happened around 10:50 a.m. on November 3. According to the Chula Vista Police Department, the man was standing behind a parked AT&T pickup truck, facing it and talking to another person. A red car suddenly raced into the frame and struck the pickup from behind.
The force of the crash pushed the work truck several yards down the road and out of the frame.
The man became trapped under the car. He lost both his legs in the crash.
A bystander brought out a carjack, which helped officers and firefighters raise the car and free the seriously injured man.
The 28-year-old driver was also injured.
Paramedics transported both the man and the driver of the car to hospitals for treatment.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Authorities said it does not appear either drugs or alcohol were a factor.
