Pedestrian Accident on 215 Freeway in Riverside
RIVERSIDE, CA (July 26, 2021) – A man sustained serious injuries in a pedestrian accident on 215 Freeway Friday, July 16.
The accident happened around 11:45 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the freeway, between Blaine Street and Third Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was walking down the middle of the freeway when a passing big rig struck him.
A second oncoming big rig then positioned his tractor-trailer combo across the lanes of traffic to protect and shield the downed victim from other oncoming vehicles.
The Riverside Fire Department crews responded and found the pedestrian lying down in the slow lane with serious injuries, including a broken leg.
Paramedics then transported the victim to an area hospital in an unknown condition.
It is unclear at this time why the pedestrian was in the middle of the freeway. An investigation is underway.
