Fatal Wrong-Way Accident on 110 Freeway in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (February 4, 2021) – A man was killed in a wrong-way accident on 110 Freeway in Gardena area early Monday morning.
The wrong-way accident happened shortly after 12:30 a.m. on the southbound side of 110 Freeway, just north of 91 Freeway.
According to one witness, a sedan was traveling the wrong way on 110 Freeway when it collided head-on into another vehicle. The impact of the initial crash involved other vehicles, one of them had overturned.
As a result, the 23-year-old wrong-way driver died at the scene. His name has not yet been released pending family notification. He was not wearing a seat belt.
A woman had to be freed from the wreckage of an SUV by firefighters. Paramedics then rushed her to Harbor UCLA Medical Center with fractures to her pelvis, an arm and a leg.
After the crash, CHP shut down all southbound lanes of 110 Freeway and the Redondo Beach Boulevard on-ramp for several hours.
This fatal wrong-way accident remains under investigation.
