High-Speed Chase on Highway 198 in Kings County Ends in Deadly Crash

 
KINGS COUNTY, CA (April 24, 2022) – A man died and a woman was seriously injured in a high-speed pursuit on Highway 198 in Kings County on Friday evening.
 
The fatal crash happened just after 10:00 p.m. on April 22 near 6th Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, officers tried to stop a Chevrolet Camaro speeding at more than 100 mph in the eastbound lanes. However, the driver refused to pull over.
 
As the vehicle neared 6th Avenue, the driver lost control. The Camaro then overturned and crashed into the back of another car. Both vehicles went down an embankment on the side of the highway near Avenue 11.
 
The man driving the Camaro was likely not wearing a seatbelt, according to reports. He died at the scene.
 
Paramedics rushed the woman driving the other vehicle to a hospital with major injuries.
 
An investigation in ongoing. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
