Police Arrest William Green for DUI after Fatal in Newberry Springs
NEWBERRY SPRINGS, CA (November 8, 2021) – A male passenger died and police arrested William Green for DUI after an accident in Newberry Springs Thursday evening.
The fatal accident happened around 9:28 p.m. on November 4, on eastbound 40 Freeway near the Desert Oasis Rest Area. Green, a 49-year-old Bullhead City, Arizona resident, was driving a Chevrolet Uplander at a high rate of speed. He allowed the SUV to collide into the rear of the Ford F-150 in front of him.
The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to overturn and ended up in the dirt center divider.
A passenger in the Ford, a 69-year-old Hacienda Heights man, was not wearing his seat belt. He was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.
The driver of the Ford, a 53-year-old Arcadia man, suffered moderate injuries. Paramedics took him to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton.
Police arrested Green and booked him into county jail on suspicion of two counts of driving under the influence causing bodily injury at $100,000 bail.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
