Elderly Man Dies in Modesto Two-Vehicle Crash on Nadine Avenue

MODESTO, CA (May 3, 2021) – An elderly man was killed in a car accident on Nadine Avenue in south Modesto Sunday afternoon, May 2.

The accident happened around 12:05 p.m. west of Musick Avenue, just north of the Home Depot store on Hatch Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the victim was driving a 1995 Nissan sedan. He stopped along the south curb of eastbound Nadine and apparently failed to see an eastbound 2002 Honda sedan approaching from the rear. He pulled out to make a U-turn directly in front of it.

The Honda, driven 23-year-old Riley Utley of Modesto, broadsided the Nissan.

As a result, the elderly man was ejected and suffered significant injuries. Paramedics took him to Doctors Medical Center, where he later died. Authorities only identified him as a 76-year-old Ceres resident.

The driver of the Honda, 23-year-old Riley Utley of Modesto, and his front-seat passenger, 24-year-old Tanner Pierce of Modesto, did not sustain injuries.

Authorities did not rule out drugs and alcohol as factors in the crash.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
