Two Vehicles Collide near Murray Ridge Road in Birdland Area Killing One Driver
BIRDLAND, CA (March 25, 2023) – A man died in a two-car accident near Murray Ridge Road and Mission Center Road in the Birdland area Thursday afternoon.
The accident happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. on March 23, just near Serra Mesa. According to the San Diego Police Department, the 53-year-old man was driving a 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck northbound on Mission Center Road when he lost control of the vehicle. The Chevrolet then spun into the southbound lane.
A 31-year-old man driving a 2006 Land Rover LR3 in the southbound lane broadsided the pickup truck.
Responding emergency crews found the driver of the Chevrolet unconscious and not breathing. They attempted CPR, but the man died at the scene. Police withheld the victim’s name pending family notification.
Meanwhile, the Land Rover driver had neck, chest, back and shoulder pain.
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
